Hear what readers are saying about Culture Shock
I had some early reviewers read the final copy of Culture Shock and this is what they had to say:

“Kept me interested the entire time. I want more. I loved the characters. The book made you feel like you were part of it. It surprised me that this is Jeanette Pekala’s first novel. It was so good. A real page turner.”
-B.A.
“Culture Shock, based upon other books I have read about vampires, zombies and werewolves, this was a good read. Even better since I know of the places in this book. The characters and story line never leave you bored and always wondering who did it.”
-T.P.
“I love Culture Shock. It had me laughing out loud at points. It’s so good, the characters, the plot, it really drew me in. I couldn’t wait to get home from work each day to read it.”
-C.I.
“It was really good. The second book better be released soon!”
-A.R.

CULTURE SHOCK is a witty tale of mystery and romance with a large helping of southern hospitality.
Macy Holmes is a seventeen-year-old socially-isolated introvert since her best friend's death a year ago. When her family decides to move from Manhattan to the quaint country town of Bougainvillea, Florida, Macy finds she's in a completely different world. Macy is no longer the outsider hiding behind designer clothes when she is sought out by three strange students, one of whom she is particularly interested in. The more time she spends with Chad the more things don't add up. When his true identity is finally revealed, Macy is pulled into a supernatural society with its saturation of inhabitants residing in Bougainvillea.
You would think she has enough on her plate, but no, then her dreams become infiltrated by an external magical force, Macy and her band of supernatural misfits must find the culprit behind the magic-induced nightmares. They must dodge zombie assassins, shifty shape-shifters and high school bullies in order to stop this perpetrator before Macy, her friends or her parents pay the ultimate price. Especially when Macy has the sneaking suspicion that these dreams are reality...

Review: Matched by Ally Condie

Review: Matched by Ally Condie

In the Society, Officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die.

Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s hardly any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one… until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow — between perfection and passion.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

My Review:

So I've seen many reviews on Matched all over the web. Goodreads, various YA blogs, etc. They all seemed to like it. Most gave it four stars. I'll have to do the same and this is why.

I honestly didn't want to pay like over $10 for the ebook so when I came across Matched at a children's book fair (paperback) for $6.99, I jumped on that like free grand slams at Denny's.

It's an expertly written book. Very deep characters and a truly intriguing story. The only issue I had was that it was lacking action. Even in the scenes where you would expect suspenseful action, like many dystopians, this one feel flat. I consider it a semi-dystopian novel.

The cover is gorgeous as you can see, all three in the series have fantastic covers. I'm almost finished with the second book today, so the review for that one will come shortly.

I liked Cassia. She is a good strong main character. I fall in love with Ky, but for some reason Cassia overlooks Xander which I think is a big mistake. I'm hoping the second and third books will rediscover this issue.

Even though the love scenes are quite chaste, they are deep. I was hoping for a little more on that front as well, they are trying to outsmart the society by having a secret love affair. Give us some heat people, but then again this book can definitely be suitable for younger teens as well.

All in all, I thought it was a great read. Hey, it was good enough for me to purchase the second book. Usually if the first book couldn't hold my interest enough there was no way I was buying the second book and I didn't even wait to find it at a cheaper price. I went against my beliefs and purchased an ebook over $10. Argh!!! But I hope it will be worth it.

Reasons #22 & 23: 25 Reasons to Read Culture Shock

Reasons #22 & 23: 25 Reasons to Read Culture Shock

Here's another installment of the 25 reasons to read Culture Shock by Jeanette Pekala. The book itself will be released on March 26, 2013. You can find it in ebook format and paperback. It will be accessible through kindle, nook, ipad, iphones, android and good 'ol fashion paper. I'm very excited for the release and have been getting rave reviews from my advanced readers. I'm truly surprised. I love it and really enjoy reading it over and over and over again, but to hear people--some complete strangers--say they love Culture Shock is absolutely amazing. I'm still super nervous to release it to the world, but the overwhelming support and likeability of the story are helping me gain confidence that I can be a successful writer.

It's been a long arduous process. I finished writing the book over a year ago and through many trials and tribulations I've finally reached the finish line. I'm proud of the story I created from my demented kooky brain and am sooooo glad others are enjoying it as well. The few people that have read it so far have mentioned that they can't wait for the second installment in the series. That feels AMAZING! (Wow, could I come up with a different word??? I call myself a writer and all, I should be able to come up with a different synonym, but amazing really does sum it up for me.)

Okay, back to #22 and #23.

The #22 and #23 Reasons You Should Read Culture Shock is:

22. You'd like to pinpoint Bougainvillea, FL on a map.

23. You love old historic homes and love them to come alive once again in modern literature.
